Country Profile: Cameroon
The armed group Boko Haram continues to commit serious human rights abuses in the country's Far North region, including looting and destroying properties and killing and abducting civilians. Authorities and security forces have also committed human rights violations. They have made arbitrary arrests and upheld incommunicado detentions where there have been reports of torture and deaths. In January and September security forces violently repressed demonstrations in Anglophone regions. Civil society activists, journalists, trade unionists, and teachers were arrested, some facing trial before military courts.
